Young Fives and Kindergarten Eligibility 

Children turning five years of age before September 1st are eligible to begin attending Kindergarten. Students born between June 15th and December 1st may be eligible for Young Fives or Kindergarten.

Young Fives and Kindergarten Round Up

Each spring, the District holds a Kindergarten Round Up event where families can learn more about the Young Fives Program and Kindergarten. This is a great opportunity to meet the elementary school principals, make an appointment for screening, and get registration information. Information about this annual event is mailed to residents.

Registration

Registration for Young Fives and Kindergarten is available online through early Spring or in person all year at the Wyandotte Board of Education, 639 Oak Street, Wyandotte, MI 48192.

Required Documentation

The following documentation is required during the enrollment process. 

  • Student Birth Certificate - registrant MUST be listed on birth certificate or alternate legal documentation must be provided
  • Student Immunization Record - alternatively, a current Immunization Waiver through the Wayne County Health Department
  • Physical/Health Assessment
  • Individualized Education Plan (IEP) - if applicable
  • 3 Proofs of Residency Including:
    1. Parent/Guardian License or State ID with current address
    2. Mortgage, Tax or Lease documentation showing ownership or rental (if these cannot be provided, a Residency Affidavit will have to be complete at the Board of Education)
    3. Additional proof of address dated within 30 days – see enrollment documentation for acceptable

Wyandotte Public Schools has four elementary school buildings that house students in Kindergarten through 5th grades. Schools are assigned to specific geographic areas based on residence.

Schools

Each school offers core classes along with Physical Education, Music, and Art.

Our schools include:

  • Garfield Elementary
  • Jefferson Elementary
  • Monroe Elementary
  • Washington Elementary
